Joined Fortis and have handled multiple responsibilities including Central Purchase, Business Processes, CSR, Low Cost Hospital Network, Stand Alone Dialysis Network and also Large High End Hospitals.
I was Head Hunted from Subhiksha and joined ABRL and was responsible for the territories of NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and West Bengal. During my tenure the stock shrinkage was brought down from 14 % to 1.5 %. Also the losses were brought down from 105 Crs at EBITA level to 15 Crs in a span of two years. This was done by Improving Efficiencies, Reducing Shrinkage, Rnegaotiating rentals for properties and Rationalising Manpower.
As Senior President I was responsible for the entire operations of the company in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and Punjab. Subhiksha was a pioneer in the retail space and the total number of stores in this area were 600. These were in the space of Super Markets, Telecom and Pharmacies. My primary role was in expansion and also reduction in cost by optimising the use of the Distribution Centres and other assets.
Oxigen was a company involved in the setting up of a POS terminal infrastructure and selling of Telecom Recharge coupons. I expanded the base from 8k terminals to 70k terminals and the company managed to raise funding from the Citi group. The company today has moved into the space of Fund Transfers and is a banking correspondent apart from selling telecom recharge.
I joined Hutch as COO for Rajasthan and Haryana. These circles had been acquired by Hutch and their integration was way behind schedule. I was responsible for ensuring that the project was brought back in track and the Hutch brand was launched in both the circles in a short span of 5 months. the subscriber base in Haryana grew from 15k to 55k in a span of 3 months while the base in Rajasthan grew from 50 k to 150 k in the same time. this ensured that Hutch substantially narrowed the gap with the main competitor and was in a position the grow the markets substantially.
The assignment at IndoRama was a short one and taken more from the perspective of rejoining the corporate world.
I became an entrepreneur and set up a company in the field of Third Party Logistics. the comapny set up a fleet of 100 Containerised trucks and several warehouses and provided transportation and logistics services to the top companies in India including LG electronics, Samsung, Coca Cola, Phillips etc. The Consulting company offered Consulting services to several clients and this was in the area of Strategic advisory, start up support and turnaround interventions. Major clients included the DS group, Capital Advertising, and several others.
I was nominated by IDBI to be on the board of Rain Commodities Ltd. At that time IDBI had substantial investments in the company and the company was in losses. By the end of my tenure the company had turned around. Today the company is the largest manufacturer of calcined petroleum Coke in the world.
I rejoined Apollo Tyres and in my second stint was responsible for Marketing, HR, IT and Corporate Strategy. In my second stint my biggest achievement was to settle the perennial labor dispute at the main factory at Chalakudy at Kerala. It was achieved over a period of 18 months and it resulted in a manpower reduction of 20 % and a productivity enhancement of 30 %. This made the plant the most profitable tyre manufacturing location in India. At the same time Apollo consolidated its position in the market by grabbing more than 30 % share of the lucrative replacement market. It also managed to achieve a significant share of the car radial market and the farm tyre market.
I joined this company as founder CEO. The company introduced Smart Cards in India. We sold the first SIM card in India to the budding telecom industry. We sold the first prepaid system which caused the explosive growth in telecom subscribers because it removed the element of credit risk. We set up the first Personalisation centre for SIM card. Today the company is one of the only manufacturers of SIM cards in India and commands a dominant market share. We also set up a System Integration company which created applications around the use of SIM cards. We created India's first health card for the Bhopal Gas victims. We created the pilot for the first Petroleum loyalty cum payment card in India. We also created the first pilot for a driving license on SIM cards.
I joined the company as a Senior Officer Coordination and moved across several functions and geographies. During this tenure of 11 years I was a key member of the team which was responsible for the turnaround of the company from a company which had eroded its net worth to a company which was the fastest growing tyre company in the country. I looked after Commercial, Sales, and finally Headed the Marketing Profit Centre and was responsible for the meteoric rise of the Company from a turnover of 183 crs to 1000 crs in a span of four years. This happened at a time when the economy was going through a recession and the entire growth was organic in nature.
In this role I was exposed to the working of the Parta System of management. I was also exposed to major strategic decision making because at that time Modi Enterprises was the fastest growing business house in the country. I was involved in the working of Modi Yarn Mills which was part of Modi Textiles. I was also involved in Modi Alkalies and Chemicals, Modi Cement and Modi Hospital project.
